Genetic insight for more personalized medication decisions
The Trinity Pathway PGX Genetic Test Kit, part of the Trinity BioBlueprint collection, focuses on pharmacogenetics: how inherited genetic differences can influence the way your body processes and responds to certain medications. PGX results provide additional information for your prescribing clinician to consider alongside your health history, current medications, and treatment goals.
What does PGX testing look for?
PGX testing analyzes selected genetic variants associated with medication processing and response. Depending on the genes and medications included in the laboratory panel, findings may provide information about:
- Medication metabolism: Genetic differences that can affect how quickly or slowly your body breaks down or activates certain medications.
- Medication response: Gene-medication associations that may help explain differences in response to specific treatments.
- Potential adverse reaction risk: Certain genetic findings that may indicate a higher risk of particular medication-related side effects.
This is a medication-focused genetic test, rather than a test for diagnosing a disease. Coverage is limited to the genes, variants, and medications included in the laboratory's PGX panel.
Benefits of PGX testing
- More personalized prescribing conversations: Add genetic information to discussions about which medication options may be appropriate for you.
- Better-informed dose discussions: Help your prescriber assess whether relevant genetic findings support a dose adjustment for a particular medication.
- Focused safety review: Identify gene-medication associations that may warrant closer monitoring or consideration of an alternative.
- Useful context for medication reviews: Provide another piece of information when reviewing an existing treatment or considering a new prescription.
Review your results with your provider
Your clinician can determine whether testing is appropriate and interpret relevant findings alongside other factors that affect medication response, including drug interactions, age, and kidney or liver function. Ask the Trinity team for the current PGX panel list to confirm whether a specific medication or gene is covered.
PGX testing does not guarantee that a medication will work or prevent side effects. Results do not replace clinical judgment or routine monitoring. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or dose without consulting your prescribing clinician.
